CELEBRATING LATINA EXCELLENCE WITH MINECRAFT EDUCATION AND THE HISPANIC HERITAGE FOUNDATION

LatinExplorers 2: A Hispanic Heritage Journey Authored by Antonio Tijerino, President and CEO of the Hispanic Heritage Foundation.
Minecraft isn't just the world's most popular video game; it's also one of the few games I wholeheartedly encourage my own kids to play. Why? Because within its virtual realms, they can explore, learn, and collaborate with friends, gaining skills and confidence that will serve them well in the real world.
Last year, in partnership with Minecraft Education, the Hispanic Heritage Foundation introduced LatinExplorers. This innovative initiative aimed to inspire and empower young individuals to become catalysts for change within the Minecraft universe while simultaneously creating pathways to careers in technology and advocacy, all while celebrating and promoting our rich Hispanic culture. We spotlighted real-life Latino heroes to guide players in addressing real-world issues, reaching millions of children in nearly 29 languages worldwide, supported by accompanying guides for parents and educators.
Today, HHF and Minecraft Education are channeling the strength, resilience, and brilliance of our Latina leaders and role models in LatinExplorers 2. This exciting new endeavor introduces three remarkable Latina trailblazers as in-game characters, providing young players and changemakers the opportunity to connect with and be inspired by these incredible role models.
In this year's Hispanic Heritage Journey, players will have the opportunity to get acquainted with:
-
GLORIA ESTEFAN: The Cuban-American songwriter, musician, actress, and business leader who, through her compelling lyrics and infectious rhythms, blazed a trail for Latin artists worldwide. Players will embark on a journey through key moments in Gloria's life, reliving iconic events and discovering the resilience that underscores each of her songs.
-
DR. ELLEN OCHOA: A true pioneer as the first Hispanic woman to venture into space. Players can experiment with her space exploration inventions, experience zero gravity in an aquatic adventure, and witness the groundbreaking contributions of Dr. Ochoa.
-
MONICA RAMIREZ: A staunch advocate for farmworkers and immigrant women's rights. Players will traverse her hometown, assist her neighbors, support her advocacy campaigns, and immerse themselves in Hispanic culture at the LatinX House, all while learning about her unwavering commitment to justice and equality.
LatinExplorers 2 amplifies our dedication to identifying, inspiring, preparing, and connecting Latino leaders in the community, classroom, and workforce. It's not just about representation; it's about inspiration. These three exceptional women not only excel in their respective fields but also serve as beacons of hope, leadership, and perseverance for all, regardless of their backgrounds.
Players will navigate through these leaders' lives, gaining appreciation for the challenges they overcame, celebrating their triumphs, and learning the qualities that set them apart as extraordinary leaders.
Inspiring the Leaders of Tomorrow
Our world is a constantly evolving tapestry of cultures, stories, and experiences. LatinExplorers 2 is our initiative to spotlight the diversity and richness of the Latina narrative, amplifying their voices and legacies.
To enhance the learning journey, we've introduced an educator guide alongside LatinExplorers 2. This edition features activities that emphasize the pivotal role of women in various fields, a family toolkit for inclusive participation, and pathways into the world of technology! Discover these resources here.
In keeping with our tradition, LatinExplorers 2, which celebrates the depth of Latina history, is accessible at no cost to educators, students, and families. It's now available in the Minecraft Education lesson library and will be launching for Bedrock players in the Minecraft Marketplace on September 19. With support for 29 languages, it's time to explore and celebrate our Hispanic heritage legends like never before.
This game also serves as a bridge for sharing our Hispanic culture with the world, fostering a more understanding, collaborative, and united global community that embraces diversity, identity, and inclusion.
